ST. JOHN'S AMBULANCE.

The annual meeting of the St. John's Ambulance Association was held in the Soldiers' Club last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess), Mrs. E. Ueckrill, Misses E. Clarke and 0. Mackay, Messrs R. C. Hughes and W. S. Berridge. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. Dowling, Miss Stanford and Mr. W. Ambury. The annual report summarised the year's work. It had been found impossible to hold the usual classes last winter, as the doctors were unable to devote the necessary time to the lectures. This was due to the war. This winter the association had been more fortunate, and had been able to hold first-aid classes, as new rules had been issued from the headquarters, London, reducing the number of lectures required to be given by the medical practitioner, am? allowing the holder of a demonstration certificate to assist with the practical work. This method of instruction will hold good only during the period of the war. Miss Turton, who held the necessary qualifications as demonstrator, kindly offered her services, and Dr. Wade delivered the necessary lectures. A class had been held at the Technical College every Monday evening, commencing on July 16, and the cxamina. lions were held on September 24 by Dr. Blackley. Twenty-nne ladies went up for examination, and as soon as the examiners' report came to hand the results would be published. The ladies of the association had assisted in all patriotic movements, and would be helping in the "Our Dav" campaign. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Last year's officers were all re-elected as follows: President, the Mayor; committee. Mesdames Dowling and Dock, rill. Misses Standford, 0. Mackay and R. Clarke. Messrs W. Amburv. H. Dempsey, W. Berridge and R. C. Hughes; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Dockrill. Votes of thanks were passed to Drs. Wade and Blackley and Miss Turton for their work as lecturers, Mr. A. Gray, for, the use of a room at the Technical College, and Mrs. Dowling for her work as secretary and treasurer.-
