"WAR AS IT REALLY IS."

SHOWN" IN NEW PLYMOUTH, Pictures uncommonly realistic were shown at tlie Empire Theatre last evening. They showed war as it really is in a vivid, interesting manner; more realistie pictures of the grim game of war have never been scon locally. The photographer must have been constantly under fire, for he takes one right to the trenches, with the exploding bombs all around, and men being killed and wounded; thence to "No Man's Land," with its ghastly traces of battle; "over thrt" top" and the French charging the Bosche and securing his front trenches and prisoners coming back, in their hundreds, with their arms in "kamerad" fashion. The artillery is shown in action—the famous seventy-fives, the long naval guns, and the heavies, with their immense shells that have to be handled b.i' cranes. A very remarkable aeries of views has been taken in an aeroplane of, an aerial right between a French and an enemy machine, the latter being downed and smashed to pieces. Views are given of the surrounding country, and some of the cloud effects are very weird. The operations of the various trench devices are very interesting—catapults, hand mortars, hand grenades and bombers in action. Floating fortresses on the Yser are (Seen at work, as well as the big guns all along the front. For over an hour one is brought very close indeed to the actual doings at the wsu. and one can then better appreciate jthe gigantic nature of the conflict, the grimness of it all, and the awful things our .own men have to put up with. The pic:ture? are to be shown at a matinee this afternoon and to-night, and should not bo missed'by 'anyone interested in the derations of ffi& war; and who is not?
