ITALIAN LOSSES SMALL. Received Sept. 27, 5.5 p.m. Rome, Sept. 2C. The Italian arrivals for the week were 540 and the sailings 470. The sinkings were one steamer over 1500 tons and six small sailers. Three ships were unsuccessfully attacked.
FIGHT IN TERRITORIAL WATERS Paris, Sept. '2O. A submarine attacked a French steamer in Spanish territorial waters on September 14. The submarine was sheltering in the midst of fishing boats, and thus prevented the steamer from using its guns effectively. After a prolonged combat, during which the vessels quitted territorial waters, the steamer was sunk five miles from land. Eight of the crew were killed, two others died of wounds and the captain was taken prisontr.
