(From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, Sept. 23. Some few days ago (lie wife of a farmer soldier (who until his enlistment some fifteen months ago was a settler on the Okoke road), received a circular from thcTe Kuiti Patriotic League, asking for his presence with or without a motor car in that town some time next month, and if unable to come, perhaps the re cipicnt might send a horse, cow or other marketable thing to help the boys at the front. At the executive meeting of the North Taranaki Patriotic League, held last evening, application was made on behalr of two indisposed soldiers that theii cases might be enquired into. Both are married men, and in or.e case the department had given him his discharge, and in the other three weeks' sick leave "without pay" and no pass from Fealheriton to Waitara. To-morrow evening the New Plymouth Male Choir will delight us with the fine programme it intends to submit at the Theatre Royal. A bumper house is in sight. The ladles of the freezing work.baby committee have generously offered to provide supper for the visitors. Mr. Beekbessinger left for Wellington this morning to attend the Second Division League conference in that city. At the meeting of the committee of the Labor Day patriotic fete on Monday_evening, the kind offer of the New Plymouth Citizens' Band was accepted, the matter of arranging for transit, etc.. being left in the hands of the locai bandmaster. The organiser reported on progress, and was granted authority ;o hire tents required for the day. leak reported on the many proposals of the baby committees intended to keep the public amused for some portion of the day. A meeting of the programme committee was held after the geneial meeting, at which it was decided to submit as other attractions two bicy;le race? for trophies, two fire brigade .'ompetitions, boys' relay race, school rug-of-war. and physical drill exhibitions, fancy dress football match, married ladies' :ace and other items, including a bandsman's race. Altogether, a good day's sport will be provided.
