Amounts are still coming in in connection with the big effort made by Mr. Newton King's staff. It was very apparent that Mrs. Abraham was the king pin of the conveyance of success, and the other ladies assisting were: Patriotic shop, Mesdames Reira and Hnrkness; tea rooms, Mesdames Dixon, Hignett, Oliver Sr., Brocklebank, Boyd, Fulcher, Morgan-Priest, Misses Hignett and Oliver; Dr. Paget's shop, Mesdames Douglass, E. Kivell- and 'Patrick; Mr. Dixon's shop, Mesdames Randrup and J. Oliver; flowers and sweets. Mesdames Ashtnn and B. Kivell and Miss O'Grady; hohpla, Miss Yardley; sheep-guessing, Mr. Hignett Sr. The majority of t.ne competitions were won by Stratford iesidents, but the prizes were nev?rtheless well distributed. These amounts, with the competitions and auction sale, are expected to tota' something in the neighborhood rf £4OO, £350 being already in hand.
For the concert and dance in the Town Hall, on Thursday evening, the ch?.rge to the concert is only Is Od, whilst a double ticket of as will allow aomission to concert and dance of lady and gentleman. Both should attract a good attendance.
The Stratford police have been making the most of their time in interviewing reservists. Durng the period (about 8 weeks) they have inspected 548 tickets. Only in one instance was it necessary to have a court action, and then the reservist was at fault in leaving his certificate in his late residence.
Steady persistent rains are falling. It may be a bit awkward for those who become wet-footed, but will be welcomed in the garden patch and by farmers generally.
There is no time like the present. It is yours, and the wise man is he who makes the most of the opportunity. Just now the opportunity of making a little cash go a long way is presented at Mr. C. E.
