| By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, 25. Early last evening, after work v?a| stopped on a steamer discharging at thq wharf, volumes of smoke issuod from a hatch. The fire brjgade pumpedwater through holes in the deck till midnight, when the fire apparently was abated, but they continued operations. Four firemen and a watersidcr who entered the hold were overcome ny smoke and removed to the hospital. Later. The fire has been completely extin< guished.
