DISTRICT NEWS.

PUKENGAHU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The spell of dry wcathdr "we are experiencing at present is having a bad effect on the grass. Consequently we get the reflex in tha quantity of milk supplied to the local creamery. One of our most progressive dairymen/ Mr. J. Rowe, has answered the call of duty and gone into camp, having tirst handed over the reins of his farm to a sharemilkcr. The Eltham Dairy Company is pushing 'on the work of erection of the new cheese factory in our valley with all speed. For some time now the motor lorry has been putting in about twelve hours a day carting material for the buildings. There are also two bullock teams fully occupied hauling material, while a large concrete mixer and a staff of twenty men are making things hum at their end. The factory when completed will be one of the most up-to-date in the 'Dominion and a credit to all concerned. It seems peculiar that the wiseacres of the Stratford Dairy Company absolutely forced the suppliers of the' Robson road creamery to break away from them if they wished to manufacture cheese. Xow 'Dame Rumor, who wasever a lying jade, hath it that the Strat-' ford Dairy Company has got out plans and practically let the contract to erect a cheese factory at Stratford and ignore the claims of the outlying creameries. If so, it looks like father turning the Jciddies out to the mercy of a cold world after the children had done the major part in building up the home. But it jnight be wise for the directors of the Stratford Company to make haste, slowly, as there are very strong indications ,of the creameries forcing the hands of 4&e directors and putting the whole concern into liquidation. What would then be the position of the cheese factory if erected at Stratford? It might be a ' case of the biter bit, and instead of the main factory getting ahead of its creameries the creameries might score a divy . at father's expense. The powers that bi are living in hopes that when it comes ! to sell the land and buildings that have 1 been in use at the Robson road creamery that those living handy whom it might pay to buy will run one another and pay big prices for land or buildings. A word to the wise. We are all good triends around here and a happy family.
