A very successful patriotic Jay was held here on Saturday, but up to 5 o'clock to-day the actual financial results were not available. Approximately the amount is stated to be in the neighborhood of £4OO. which is a fine tribute to the thoroughness of the manner in which the staff "got into the collar," and pulled together. The members tnd theiv friends were very energetic, and kept up their end till 10.30 on Saturday evening, and right till that period the scene of operations was so very animate. th ; it it will be long, remembered. "Oh! listn t". the music of the band" was one of tht, features of the day (and evening), and the costume of the drummer (Mr. J. Rowe), as a sundowner, with the placard "Sis O'clock! Get Out!" was considered very appropriate, and the cause of many smiles. The Pierrots battled hard to place the several raffles successfully, and generally succeede.l. in their task, whilst the ladies engaged also dm their bit in the most bewitch'ng manner. In the next issue 1 to have full details of the winners of the various competitions, etc., and the tota) amount taken. Next Thursday a concert, organised by the borough electrical stall", will be held in the Town Hall, the nett proceeds to go towards the Taranaki Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Performers assisting include Mr. R. Boyd (a Wanganui bandsman), T. Gormley (Hawera). SergeantMajor Hill (Hawera), Miss Laing (Inglewood), and several favorite faces of Stratford. 'Particulars are advertised on page 1. Ratepayers are reminded that a poll by the Stratford County Council will be taken at the Ngaere Hall and county offices, Stratford, to-morrow (Tuesday), in connection with the bridge loan proposals. Mr. Victor Henry, working at the Ajy.R. premises, had to proceed to New Plymouth this morning. On Saturday an obstinate motor car gave trouble in cranking, and resulted in Henry breaking a bone of his right arm above the wrist. At a meeting of the Second Division League on Saturday .evening Mr R. Masters was appointed delegate to represent the Stratford branch at the meeting of the delegates to be held at Wllington shortly. Mr. Masters leav«s on Wednesday morning. There is no time like the present. It is yours, and the wise man is he who makes the most of the opportunity. Just now the opportunity of making a little cash go a long way is presented at Mr. C. E. James' warehouse. Prices are down to bedrock, whilst quality is of the highest.
