THE PRICE OF HEMP By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 22. The Premier has received from the High Commissioner the following cable: —"The Hemp Controller now advises that it is proposed to fix the maximum price of No. 2 hemp £1 per ton higher than the figures before mentioned. The fixed price of tow is as follows: No 1 £59 per ton; No. 2, "£SG; No. 3, £54." Messrs Levin and Co. have received a cable to the effect that the Imperial Government has fixed the maximum prices of hemp in London, good fair £S4 per ton, high fair £32, low fair £Bl, prices c.i.f. London, war insurance paid by shipper. MAXIMUM PRICE FIXED. Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. (London, Sept. 21. ■ The Army Council has fixed maximum prices for New Zealand hemp and sisal fibre in order to secure farmers binder twine at a reasonable price.

Calves: Heavy vealers from £6 23 6d to £7 2s 6d, 'medium £4 5s to £5 15s, lighter £3 10 to £4 Cs, light '£2 Ms to £3 3s, small and fresh-drop-ped, good colors, 12s Cd to £2 3s Cd, weak and inferior 4s to 10s. Pigs: A small muster, which brought high values. Choppers sold from £5 12s to £0 18s, heavy taconers £4 14s to £5 lis, small baconers £3 17s 6d to £4 12s fid, large porkers £3 lis to £3 17s, medium £2 15s to £3 os, small 37s (id to £2 14s slips 16s to 235. Sheep were penned in average numbers, and sold under steady competition.
