PRESS CORRESPONDENCE.
! To the Editor. : Sir,—l have read a letter in the Daily News signed "Brevity," advocating the application of blue pencil to the correspondence of some, contributors to the Daily News. I take it that your correspondent is a night man commonly known by the term "fowl snatcher," I should not wonder if his next request would be for you to refrain from publishing criminal court cases, for there is nothing this class of man dislikes as much as newspaper publication. I can't do better than express myself in the words of Cardinal Manning: "There is," said Cardinal Manning, "a class of persons who have never done anything that mattered or written anything that mattered, but have something to urge against anything anybody does or anything anybody writes." His Eminence was describing the weaker brethren. He says they are decent people in general and never give scandal. They take it aibout once a week. To do so th.ey esteem a sign of delicacy of conscience. In conclusion, I beg to thank you once more in anticipation of you giving me 6paco for my poor contribution, and hope the blue pencil won't be used this time.— I am, etc., JOHN BIGGINS, Lepperton, September 20, 1917.
