SWIMMING AND LIFE-SAVING.
INSTRUCTING THE CHILDREN. Right from its inception the officials of the North Taranaki centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society decided that the principal aim of the centre would be to encourage an interest in swimming and to provide the knowledge of lifesaving methods among the school children of Taranaki. With this object sev. era! of the enthusiastic officials visited some of the schools last year, and gave practical demonstrations of life-savins methods to the scholars. The teachers of the schools visited, and, indeed, throughout Taranaki generally, recognising th» value of this knowledge to the children, gave every assistance, and thf centre has had numerous requests to visit other schools. This year the centre intends, if possible, to visit all the schools in Taranaki, and a start will be made on Wednesday, when four officials of the centre will give demonstrations in lifesaving methods at the following schools at the time stated: Normanby i')'.2o; Hawera 10; Manaia 11.30; Otakeho 1.15Auroa 2; Kapuni 2.45; Kaponga 3.30. The officials would be pleased to meet any members of the committees and parents interested at the various schools.
