THE SECOND DIVISION.

ABOLITION OF RECRUITING DISTRICTS. The abolition °f the recruiting districts established under the Military Service Act was announced in a Gazette Extraordinary issued on Tuesday. The Minister for Defence explains that this .step was necessary in view of impending mobilisation of the Second Division. The married men have been classified according t,o the number-of their dependents andjihey are to be plotted - :in these classes. It ia estimated that , each class will ' produce enough recruits for about two of the monthly drafts. If ■the-districts and the quota system were maintained in connection with this classification the ballots would be eomplicat- ! any corresponding advantage. The quota system would operate in one month. Then the authorities would have to call up the balance of the. class en .bloc in the following month. No dis- ; trict would gain any advantage from the ; • preservation of the districts under such ' fojiditions. The whole Dominion will be treated as qpe district for the ballotting of the Second Division. Men wlto, reach military age after this month'will pas 3 into the Forces subject to medical examination, without ballot, since there will netfer be enough of them to fill a draft.
