CURTAILED LIQUOR HOURS.
DEPUTATION. TO PREMIER. LICENSEE OWNERS CLAIM COMi PENSATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A number of hotel licensees owning their properties deputationed the Prima Minister to-day to state their position as to hotel values, and to discuss the question of relief in the way 'of compensation. It was stated that the reduced hours would ruin some licenses owners. The records of in wan oases alfo\yed that 40 to 00 per cent, wa* received during the hours from <5 to K p.nj., arid that the curtailment of hour? without compensation was equivalent t< confiscation of their property. If th< Licensing Bill was put on the statute book a clause should be included provjdi ing for compensation for the ownei licensees on a basis to be assessed by the compensation courts. Mr. Mfcssev said he was sorry the position of the publicans, especially that ot I the freeholders,- had not been placed before the House.
