STATEMENT BY THE PREMIES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. "I want to tell members of the House that they must be very hard to please if they are not satisfied with the proposals of the Government when they are brought down," said the Prime Minister, when lie was asked a question regarding the provision to be made for the dependents of the Second Division men .to-day. Mr. Massoy was referring to the subject indirectly when he. was discussing the financial aspects of the early closing, lie said that Cabinet during the weekend had been considering proposals involving an additional expenditure at the rate of £700,000 per annum. "About 8000 married men have joined the forces up to the present time, and the indications are that about 12.000 will be taken into camp during the next twelve months."
The sum mentioned by Mr. Massey i» large enough to permit 'of a substantial addition to the separation allowances, even after taking into account tho increased pension rates which will be a liability of the future more than of the present. "*
