ELTHAM.

OVERSEAS CLUB'S CONCERT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Sept. 17. The promoters of the concert to be held in the Town Hall on Friday evening, m aid of Blind Soldiers' Hostel, have arranged a programme that ranks as one of the best yet presented to an Eltham .audience. The artists engaged include the Hawera quartette, Professor Highain's orchestra and the two popular dancers, Misses Lynne Edivards and Betty Jacomb, whilst Mrs. M. J. Goodson (also of Hawera) is a soloist who deserves a great reception. Opunakc is represented by the Rev. Papakakura, Mr. Chambers and a quartette. Mrs. Masscy (of Stratford) also figures on the prdgrainme, and there are many who will be pleased to see her on the Eitham platform. Those who enjoy dramatic recitations will hear Messrs Frank Ranford (Stratford) and J. Blyth (Hawera) at their best. A cornet solo is down to Mr. E. Gould. The comedy element is left to Messrs Ranford and Silver. Should Mr. Ranford contribute "The Toy Trumpet" or "AH of a Ditherum" he will strike the popular fancy. The prices, 3s, 2s and Is, are extremely low, and bearing in mind tlie objects of the concert and the merits of the performers, a big house should result. Particulars appear on the first page. GENERAL.

A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held this morning, before Mr. E. Parrott, J;P., when Frederick Theodore Paulton was charged with breaking into the premises of Ed. Zimmerman and stealing a suit of clothes (valued at £5) and sundry other articles of the total value of £8 15s. Accused was arrested at Kaponga on Saturday by Constable Town«end. This morning, after being formally charged. Paulton was remanded to appear on Monday, 24th instant, at 10 a.m.

This morning I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Pierre de Launay. A few months back he moved around coatless and with the soldering iron. Now he has the military stride and uniform that indicate he is a member of our Expeditionary Forces. Up on final leave, ho goes into camp with the artillery. Questioned regarding the work down at camp, he speaks highly of tho methods adopted towards malting a man efficient. Gunner de Launay moved into camp much earlier than necessary, being a. business man. but, like many others, he recognises that in these days business has to stand aside to win the war, so he is "hopping into it." Good luck to him, and may he liave a good passage and a safe return.

Private Geo. Clarry and SergeantMajor Jack McLeod were not available when I tried to get on their track. 1 am told that both return from a sea voyage that did a lot to build them up, and make them something like what thev were before leaving New Zealand. Mr. E. 'Parrott. a previous Mayor, has accepted nomination for the vacancy at the council table caused by the. resignation of Cr. Lightbourne. Mr. Parrott's nominators are Cr. 11. G. Carman and Mr. T. C. Stav.ners. • Mr. Harold Norfhovcr, for some years secretary of the Egmont Box Company, lias been appointed secretary of the Eltham Dairy Company, vice Mr, H. J. Barnard, resigned. There were 56 applications for the position.
