A SOLDIER DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gore, Sept. 11. A drowning accident occurred in the Mataura River at six o'clock last night. Frederick Wallace,' aged 20, who was on final leave from camp, was crossing the traffic brigde, when his hat was blown into the river. He waded in to intercept it and was swept off his feet and carried down the river before assistance could be rendered. The river is being dragged.
