BOARD OF TRADE.
VISIT TO TAEANAKI. Two members of the Board of Trade, Messrs W G. McDonald (acting chairman), and P. Hally, sat in the Xew Plymouth Court-house yesterday forenoon, when they conferred on the question of local meat prices with Mr. F J, Lyons, secretary of the Taranaki Workers' Council, and the following gentlemen representing the New Plymouth Borough Council:—Messrs W A. Colli* (chairman of the abattoirs committee), J. 11. Quilliam (borough solicitor), F T. Dellringer town clerk), and Mr. T. P. Eeakes (abattoirs manager), Mr. J. Coime'.l (secretary of the Taramiki Freezing Company) was also present. Subsequently tho members of the board and their secretary. Mr. J. M. Collins, proceeded to Waitara to investigate the conditions there, and on returning in the afternoon met the master butchers of Xew Plymouth at the Court-house, it being understood before the conference that if an amicable arrangement Were not arrived at with the butchers the board would supply meat from tho Imperial stores and fix the retail prices to j be charged to consumers. | Jhe cnnterence with the biltchcrs lasted all the afternoon and will be continued to-day. when it is hoped some finality will be reached.
In the evening' the Board members met the Abattoirs Committee of the New Plymouth Horou.lrii Council, and also representatives of the Taranaki Farmers' Freezing; Company, when the comparative wholesale prices of stock on the farm and at the freezing works were fully and carefully considered. AT WAITARA. During the afternoon's visit to Waitani the members of the Board negotiated satisfactory arrangements with the local butchers for the supply of meat to j-asidonis at agreed prices up to 31st December next. .
