TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Danncvirke races to-day. DannovirUe Hunt Club to-morrow. Tlie towsers are barking Elocution. There arc about fifty horses in training at Hawera at present. The Sydney stipes appear to be keeping their eyes on the Maorilanders. Signorella carried 8.11 in tho Trial at Marion, and has '8.5 at Danncvirke today. A Wellington writer states that Kilmarnock raced as Surprise. Was it not Sir Prize? Miss Sation is not too sound, and 11 5 may pull her up in the Jlurdles at Dannevirke. Elocution won so well at Marton last week that the touts will have nothing else in the Otanga Handicap at Danuevirke. It was the local hor=eman, \ McDonnell. who won on Iceberg at Marton, not R. Macdonald, as stated in most papers. With Iceberg and Maniaroa engaged in the Jumpers' Flat race to-day Tara- | naki appears to hold a fairly strong i hand. I With liandicappers Geo. Morse and IT. Coyle and starter R. Skipwith out of the running, there will ho -onto lovely shuffling this season before racing clubs link up with suitable substitutes. "Bunty pulls the strings!" 1 Smart tiiree-ycar-ohls are usually dangerous in the spring, and on this a::;count Vagabond is not likely to want 'for backers in the Spring Handicap today. Last season the bay son of Martijan sported silk on eighteen occasions, ■and his place record read: Three lirsts, I seven seconds, and two thirds. Mr. Alf. Morse has been appointed starter to the Stratford Racing Club. Few have had more experience with horses, and his starting at the Opunake meetings has always called forth laudatory superlatives. It is likely that there will bo keen demand for his services on this coast thia season,
Coalition and Kurnpai are reported to he likely starters at Dannevirke. Hie former has earned a penalty of 101b, which brings his weight up to 10.4. At a difference of only 23ib the top-wei,slit appears to hold Kiddiford's 'chaser quite safe. Golden Glade finished just outside a place in the Spreydon Hurdles at Riccarton last month, and will be heavily fancied in the Hack Ilurdles to-day, though consistent horses like Colorado and Moulu are not likely to be neglected. Racing over long distances Detroit has always shown a lot of pace, and it will be interesting to note how lie shapes over shorter courses this week.
