WESTERN ATTACK.
TRENCHES CAPTURED. FRENCH REPEL AX ATTACK. .Received London, Sept. 10. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Northum. berland troops captured six; hundred yards of trenches south-east of Hargincourt, and simultaneous!}" we captured a small portion of trench rounding otf our line eastward of Nalakoff farm. We improved our position north-east of St. Julian.
A French communique says: Following intense artillery fire, the Germans attacked in force on the right bank of the Meuse, on a front of three kilometres, on both sides of Hill 344. A few detachments only gained a temporary fooling. Our counter-attack completely re-established our lines. The enemy renewed his fruitless attempts to recapture the positions at Chaume Wood. A number of columns north of Wavrille Wood were caught in our fire and severely punished. FRENCH REPULSE ENEMY. London, Sept. 0 A French communique states: The Germans violently counter-attacked positions captured yesterday in the sector of Fosses and Cauriercs Woods, but were repulsed with heavy losßes. Scouts who pushed beyond the FoSBe Wood estimated that there were over a thousand enemy corpses before our lines. There has teen great reciprocal artillery fire on the left bank of the~Meuse, but no infantry actions.
