THE SECOND DIVISION.
FIRST BALLOT IN OCTOBEB,, CALLED UIP IN JANUARY./ QUESTION OF MEDICAL I EXAMINATION. By Telegraph,—Press Wellington, Last Night. Replying to Mr. Buick in the House this afternoon. Sir James Allen said ifc was a little difficult to give definite information as to when the Second Division would be called up. As far as hj» could judge, they certainly would not be called into camp before December, and lie hoped not before January. They wero trying to devise a scheme whereby the medical examination of the Second Division would take place earlier than was the ease with, the First Division, but there were difficulties which he hoped would be overcome. They hoped to take the ballot a month earlier than otherwise would be the case, in order that the men might get an extra month between the ballot and going into camp. The endeavor with respect to the First Division was to allow two months between the ballot and going into camp, but Hwy had not always been able to carry that out, because of the shortages in campy By the arrangements now , made tbeji hoped to make up all shortages, and pro-' vide for all requirements up to December froin the remaining men of the First Sii vision, and the combing out of C2 m#n, so it would not be before January sbat the first draft of the Second Division men would be called on to come to camp, The first ballot should take place in- Ow tober, in order to allow three months after the ballot before the men were called up. If the arrangements, as indicated, could be made, it was expected an assurance could be given that no Second Division man would be caßed. up until three months after he was.baU lotted for.
