THE RECENT RAID. 9 KILLED, 4fl INJURED. London, Sept. 5. British - official.—A considerable number of aeroplanes crossed the south-east coast over a wide area last night. The raiders travelled singly or in groups, rendering an estimate of the numbers difficult, but probably they totalled twenty. The first bombs were dropped in the London district at 11.45, continuing till 1.40 in the morning. Bombs were also dropped on the coast. The casualties reported are nine killed and 4!) injured. The damage was not extensive.' , One machine was brought down in the sea at Sheerness. INTERCEPTED BY OUR FLYERS. Received Sept. 7, 12.50 a.m. London, Se.pt. ft Tho Royal Flying Corps intercepted at least half the raiders and drove them back seawards, but the re=t reached London at a high altitude in three relays, at intervals of tuventy minutes. They did not attempt to preserve battle formation, but dropped torpedoes and bombs aimlessly. Londoners generally took cover effectively, henco the Small casualties. The Daily Chronicle says that moat' of the men in the Chatham naval cstab* lishment concerned in Monday's raid were asleep in their hammocks in the drill hall. There were several terrific explosions, and the roof was lifted off and collapsed in fragments. It is believed that the deaths readied 230. BALKANS. AIR RAID ON ANDRIANOPLE. London, Sept. 5. The Admiralty reports that naval aircraft effectively bombed Andrianople bridge and railway station. EVACUATING HELLENIC TERRITORY. Received Sept. (1, f>. p.m. Athens, Sept. 5. i Tho commander-in-chief of the Epirus mas been ordered to evacuate Hellenic territory. The cavalry has already left Janina.
