WESTERN ATTACK.
THE ARTILLERY STRUGGLE. AIR REPRISALS. London, Sept. 5. The French communique states:—After a lively bombardment the Germans attacked Casemates Plateau. Our fire cheeked then!. The artillery struggle continued violently on both banks of the Moiwe all night. (Herman aeroplanes last nij.'ht agaiii bombed hospitals near Verdun. There were some casualties. They also heavily bombed Uar-le-Duc, where there were some civilian casualties. As reprisals for the bombing of hospitals, two of our aeroplanes last night bombed Treves, We al.io made many air raids oji railway stations, aerodromes, barracks, factories and munition dumps, causing a violent fire at the last named. RAIDS ON BELGIAN TOWNS. BY BRITISH AIRMEN. London, Sept. .7. The Admiralty reports:—We raided on Monday night the Bruges docks, Varrcsenaere and Ghistelles aerodromes and dropped many tons of bombs with good results. We again raided the Bruges docks at noon yesterday, hitting many sheds and causing fires. All our machines returned. GERMANS LAUNCH ATTACKS. REPULSED BY FRENCH. Received Sept. 0, 8 p.m. Paris, Sept. 5. A French communique says: After a violent bombardment the. Germans launched two attacks on the California plateau, which were repulsed. There were artillery duels on both banks of tho Meuse. AERIAL ACTIVITY. GERMANS BOMB HOSPITALS. Received Sept. 6, 0.40 p.m. London, Sept. fi. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We drove buck raiders eastward of Kleinzillebenn. Artiilcrring continues on the Ypres front. Enemy aeroplanes bombed various places, including the hospital area, causing a few casualties. We brought down a raider. Our and balloons co-operated with the artillery yesterday. Despite vigorous attacks wo secured a record number of photographs, whereof many were taken at great distances behind the lines. Enemy aeroplanes are disinclined to fight, except well east of the line. We brought down thirteen. Seven of ours are missing. RAIDERS DRIVEN OFF. London, Sept. 5. iSir Douglas Haig reports:—We drove off raiders in the neighborhood of Ar. meutierres.
