STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] SCHOOL CONCERT. Stratford, Sept. 5. All roads should lead to the Town Hall to-morrow (Friday) night, the occasion being one to raise funds for school requirements. The price of fuel, cleaning, etc.. ha? been increased, and these and other expenses have had to he met, hence the method of raising the cash. »i very lengthy programme has been drawn up, all the leading talent of the town and district assisting. The prices fixed for admission are very reasonable, and tickets have found a ready sale, so that a bumper house may be anticipated. Details are advertised on page 1. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee will run the tea-rooms and mart as usual on Saturday, Mesdames Mackay and C. D. Sole will control the mart and Mrs. Middleton the tea-rooms. Last Saturday Mesdames Smart and H. Masters were in charge, the mart netting £5 las and the tea-rooms £o—good figures, considering the weather. Mr. W. J. Reeve, formerly clerk of the court here, and recently removed to Feilding, has received another transfer, his new duties being at Rotorua. The quarterly meeting of the Stratford Licensing Committee will be held at the courthouse to-morrow at 2 p.m. A silting of the S.M. Court will be held here to-morrow. The weather to-day is decidedly unfavorable, cold minds and heavy show- I ers in the morning prevailing. Before daylight the thunder and lightning were startling, to say the least, being the worst experienced for years. The visit of the Y.M.C.A. secretary, Mr. Varney, is causing considerable interest here, and there should be large audiences. T. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. Last Saturday our usual weekly sale was held, when only a limited amount of poultry, produce etc., came to hand. Poultry and produce are in very keen demand. We quote: Hens 3s 7d and 2s, ducks 2s Od to 3s, geese 4s to sa, roosters 2s to 3s, cabbage 2s to 3s doz, cauliflower 4s to 5s doz, potatoes 9s to 12s sack, bran 10s fid to lis; furniture and sundries at usual auction rates. T. Lamason's usual sale is advertised for Saturday, also a quantity of furniture oii behalf of a deceased person's estate, i There is no time like the present. It is yours, and the wise man is he who makes the most of the opportunity. Just now the opportunity of making a little cash go a long way is presented at Mr. C. E. James' warehouse.
