STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) F All communications, letters, etc., left wiiii Mr. 11. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] MODEL DAIRY FARM. Stratford, Sept. ». The monthly meeting of the Model Dairy Farm Committee was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs J. W. Deem (chairman). F. Ranford, R. Dingle, J. W. Boon, vY. IT. Were and J. E. Richards. Mr. R. Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, waited on the committee, and stated with reference to the proposal to set aside an area of the farm for purposes of instruction in agriculture under the control of the hoard, that proposals were afoot to establish a technical high school in Stratford, and Dip original suggestions of the promotion committee to provide land for this purpose would be of great assistance. A sub-committee was set up with power to offer the board a lease for five years of a suitable area, at a rental of £1 per acre, and rates, with a right of purchase at practically cost price, provided the board's proposals meet with the committee's approval. Mr. G. W. Dyson, scoutmaster, waited on the committee regarding growing vegetables for patriotic purposes. The plots are to be granted, the committee to plough and fence the area. A vote of thanks and an honorarium was made to Mr. A. D. Stanley for secretarial work since the inception of the scheme. Votes of thanks were also accorded to Messrs Malone and King, for their services in connection with incorporation and initial proceedings. Mr. W. Power was appointed secretary. Accounts amounting to £3lB were passed for payment. WAR LOAN. The total investments made over the local post office counter up to last evening amounted to £15,100 lis, whilst other amounts handled bring the total well up to £2OOOO. These amounts include one application of £ISOO, and two of £IOOO. The full totals are not yet available, but, with other towns in Taranaki, the figures given show that Stratford has done very well in loan matters. GENERAL. In conversation with Mr. W. A. Hewitt regarding the debate on the booth question at the A. and P. Association's meeting on Saturday, he said his position was not made very clear. What he wished to convey was that certain members of the association held that the £3O secured for the booth privileges was too big a source of revenue to throw away. Rather than have the liquor on the ground ho knew a syndicate that was prepared to offer up to £4O for the booth, and he was rather surprised that the meeting did not accept this offer, and thus not go to the vote on the matter. Certainly, had they accepted this £4O there would be no liquor for sale, but the association would have made a better profit if they had decided on this offer than continuing the liquor booth Interest is already being worked up in connection with the great gift sale to be held some time in January in aid of patriotic funds. The Toko road committee holds a meeting this week, and next week delegates meet at Stratford to work out details. There is no time like the present. It is yours, and the wise man is he who makes the the most oi the opportunity. Just now the opportunity of making a little cash go a long way is presented at Mr. C. E. James' warehouse. Prices are down to bedrock, whilst quality is of the highest. Ladies, don't neglect this chance of securing best leather handbags, jewellery, wedding presents, etc., now offering. Call and inspect when next in town. Mr. B. J. Peters' jewellery sale will soon be at an end. Prices have been considerably reduced in the many lines he is carrying. When next in Broadway just take notice of the superb jewellery He is offering at such low figures that should ensure a ready sale. Giftsjsuitable for wedding presentations, farewell wristlet watches, engagement souvenirs, etc., are all there awaiting the buyers. Don't neglect this opportunity.—Advt.
