A MOTOR ACCIDENT.
—,—. I. ■' ..—...1-MARVELLOUS MARVELLOUS ESCAPE. Mr. T. Harlahd, driver of one of the New Plymouth-Opunake mail motor cars, and a passenger named A. Thompson, a returned soldier, had a marvellous escape from death while driving from Opunake to Wanganui on Saturday night. When •going down the Kai Iwi hill, about eight miles from Wanganui, at tt dangerous point in the road the ear skidded and Went over a hank, where, after backing a considerable distance it capsized. 'Both occupants were rendered unconscious, but fortunately were thrown clear of the car, as when Thompson, who was only stunned, recovered about 1 «vuu, some two hour* later, the car ws»i ft smouldering heap of ruins, having caught fire. Ho obtained assistance, and Hariand was taken to a nuar-by house, being later removed to Wanganui hospital, 'where ho is now toeing treated for injuries to the neck and hand. It is Stated that mooting a car without lights following another oar with lights was the cause of the accident. The destroyed car was owned toy; Ml*., E. Wooldridge.
