INGLEWOOD.
(From our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening the New Plymouth Male Choir visited luglewood and' treated the audience to one of the best concerts ever submitted locally. Tht> conductor, Mr. McLeod, is deserving of congratulation on the state of proficiency to which he has trough* the choir during the short time it has been in existence, and the rendering of the different part songs, especially the concluding item, "Evening," must have been most gratifying to him. The soloists w-ere all well received, and in every case encores, and some cases double and treble encores 'were demanded, and met with a very ready response. The Rev. Papapafcura fairly captivated the audience by his excellent rendering of well chosen numbers, and although he was only on the programme for three songs, after seven or eight "appearances made lip of responses to encores, the audience still wanted more. His items were a treat, the like of which has seldom (been afforded to Inglewoid. The other soloists all did justice to their well selected items, and are certainly above the average amateur. Mr. 'MaoDonald sang "Gladiator" which suited his powerful bass voice admirably. Mr. Dunstan gave a very fine rendering of "When You Coma.Home," as j>lso did Mr. N. Day of 'Tor tlie Green," and the latter's rendering of the solo work in the final, part song "Evening" is worthy of spe-. olal mention. Tsie choir is most fortunate in having as their accompanist an artiet of Mr. Aniold O. Sturrock'a ability, and his solo work waaanost delight--fid. At the conclusion of tho concert, the mayor thanked the choir for the
led for a vote of thanks by acclamation, which was most readily given. The Maketawa ladies treated the visitors to. supper after the programme, which brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. I should not forget to mention that, the proceeds of the concert are being voted to the Y.M.C.A. funds.
