LEPPERTON, (From On: Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Patriotic Committee was held on Wednesday evening last, when steps wete taken to'inaugivratefhe campaign on behalf of Baby Crowe, the "Red Triangle" candidate in the 'North Tnranaki baby contest. As the Ladies' Guild is an active ally of the Patriotic Committee, it is expected that considerable booty will be taken. Several schemes for the manufacture of "silver bullets" are under consideration. The opening shot of the local campaign was fired on Thursday evening, when a detachment of nearly thirty strong, tlie Anzac Choir from Waitara, rallied to our assistance, and under the able leadership of the conductor, Rev. G. B. Ilinton, gave a splendid concert en behalf of the local baby. Mr. W. Roberts, who presided, made a 'brief speech in explanation of the object of which the concert was in aid. The following was the programme:—Part song, "Land of Hope and Glory," choir; song, "The Admiral's Broom," Mr. Furniss; song, "Mother jMine"' (encored). Miss Gernhoel'er; recitation, "Asleep at the Switch" (encored), Mr. Tate; selection, "The Fighting Fusilier," orchestra; s ong, You Come" (encored), Mr. Collier; quartette, "Little Jack Horner," I quartette party; "Hushing Song," Mrs. 1 Knight; part song, "King of Kings," choir; song, "Minister to Tea," Rev. Mrs. Eraser accompanied the choir items. Mention should be made of the cushion donated to the Patriotic Committee by Mrs.'Ackland, which realised £2, and of the assistance of some of the school children, who sold over £6 worth of tickets. The net, takings were over £lO. 'ln response to an appeal by the secretary of the Church Army for help from schools to provide a Now Zealand childrens' Christmas Gift dinner for the poor children of London, the local children contributed, mostly in pennies, the Bum of Ins lOd. Mrs. Denton proposes giving one of her popular concerts hero on Tuesday, October 2, in aid of the patriotic funds. A glance at the balance-sheet of the local dairy company disposes me to the belief that the annual meeting of the company, to too held on Friday next, September 7, will 'be a happy gathering. KAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Farewelling Committee met on the 28th, and sent to Private Dudley a pipe, he being unable to be present to receive a farewell. A fountain pen has been sent to both Private 'Beaumont and Privnte Copestake, who were unable to return for any length of time. The ball for patriotic purposes realised about £2O, which included £2 10s received from a stall of sweets, drinks, etc., which was arranged in the hall, Mrs. Wright having charge. The sit-down supper was very enjoyable, and the tables looked very inviting laden with the many good things provided by the ladies of the district. Great credit is Hue to Mrs. O'Neill and Miss HildaWright and committee, who worked so hard to make the affair a success. The local factory is now receiving a tfnir supply of milk, and cheese-making started on Saturday.
