Correspondents emphasise that the Anglo-Italian monitors dominate the Gulf of Trieste. AUSTRIAN'S LOSE HEAVILY. Times Service. Received Aug. 31, 1.45 a.m. Rome, Aug. 30. The T mes correspondent states that the whole of the Bainsizza plateau is now in Italian hands. The battle on the uplands beyond continues in their favor. To the southward the occupation of Kobelik and Ivladoni gives them possession of the southern outlet of Chiapovano valley. The battle movements began with the Italians making a northward advance, turning out tho Austrians from their trenches and caverns more effectively than by smashing blow,s of heavy gitns. General Cadorna attacked along the whole line. The preliminary fighting was' an attempt to find tho weak spot, which was found north and south of Avschex valley. The Austrians gave way before the Impetus of the Bersaglcri, who were reinforced by two 'battalions, of Alpini. The fresh troops poured through the breacii. The Austrians expected tho attack to be made on the Carso. The Italian Third Artny was engaged, lierc, smashing an Austrian division and taking 4500 prisoners, other divisions losing heavily. Despite preparations on the Carao, the Austrians were unable to prevent the Italian thrust, where it was driven home towards and, beyond Seio.
