DISTRICT NEWS.
URENUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening, August 23, a social was held, the local hall being well filled, to farewell Private Fred Rowe and Private G. Coleman, both well known in these parts. During the evening Mr. A. Halcombe (chairman of our Patriotic League) presented, on behalf of the Urenui folk, to each soldier a wristlet watch, and wished them both every luck and a safe return. Of course the main topic now is "Our i Baby." or at least the north country baby, who is out to 'win the baby competition. With Tikorangi, Motunui, Urenui, Okoke, Uruti, Tongaporutu, Mokau, and Awakino helping, things will be only middling. We often hear the 6aving that the cockie is mean, but I'm not sure that it won't be "Look out for the cockies." They are out to win. We bear there's no one in it but the freezing works, and how about the west country baby? Anyway, every vote ia a penny more to our boys, who are all doing their little bit. So work hard and vote to put the fancy baby on top.
