Vacuum, Bonepe, Torchlight. Miss Qucon. Mystic Light S.O. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Judging by the almost too numerous acceptances received for the Marton J.C. upring meeting. Wednesday next should see "something doing'' at the conveniently situated junction town. By "almost'too numerous" one means that (ields of anything over say sixteen are too unwieldy for satisfactory starting, or interesting racing, and are not conducive to spirited speculation. At Avondale and one or two other places the fields have been so large that the horses have had to be lined up in two rows—a rotten arrangement for those in tile rear rank. And yet away from the course (milters are trying to pick, 'era! The various events at Marton have attracted as many as 21, 22, 27, 31, and 34 acceptors, which is beyond all reason. Fourteen remain in the Marton Handicap, l-i/j miles, though the defection of Kauri King- and Sloight-of-Haud caused surprise in some quarters. Of the crowd remaining in, Flying Camp, Coldstream, and Detroit arc likely to have many friends. The Railway Handicap has drawn a good field of 22, with hardly a. bad one in the lot. Kauri King is engaged in the Spring, in preference to the ten furlongs handicap, and the distance is certainly more to his liking. Taranaki is well represented with Glen-l-oy. Avon Park, Paraoa, and others, but they may find horses like Crowhurst, Centre, Elocution, and Interlude hard to beat at the weights. If the 27 engaged in the Hack Hurdles, li miles, arc all Bent down to Marton their owners will find it hard to get hurdle, horsemen to go round. Kurapai is not badly treated with 11.10, considering the company, but Miss Sation, Austin, Tatimi, and Colorado have all shown good form over the small sticks, and horses like Postillion, Veto. Swinton, and Yarilla, are all capable of anything. The ten figuring in the Hack Steeples, 2 miles include good sorts like Bodenham and Union Jack. •Master Strowan heads the list of nine in the Rangitikci Steeples, 3 miles, but at the weights Sandy Paul and Marton may troubie him. Some reputed smart maidens will be seen under silk in the Trial Plate (o fiirlongsj, in which .11 are engaged. Coolpan, Lady Beaufort, Piano, Zela, and Turangapito arc all alleged to be fast, and some of the others are bred the right way to turn out speedy. The Electric Hack Handicap, (i furlongs, has filled with 21, including Lingerie, Silver Tongue, and Aero, A meeting between this trio should he interesting. The biggest crowd of the day will probably line tip for the Tntaenui Welter, 34 being paid up for. These include Lady Beaufort, Woodlark, Alteration, All Talk, and others that have shown good form |:his season, The annual meeting'of the WavcrleyWaitotara Racing Club was -field on Monday afternoon, a big trovvd being present. The balance-sheet showed that the annual race meeting was a record one. Tin,, totalisator turnover was easily a record for any one-day meeting in the Dominion. The sum of £IOO additional had been given in stakes, while the Government tax amounted to £ll3O 7s Id, as against £4-71 the previous year, It |vus decided to inve-t -C3OO in the War Loan, and increase the stakes for this year's meeting by £10."). The Waverley Cup will bo raised'to .CJOO. a nice stake. The club has decided to increase its donation to the Wanganui Hunt Club front £25 to £-10. Mr. IT. Coyle was re-elected handicapper, and Mr. T. Cameron starter.
