PURCHASE OF BUTTER OUTPUT.
THE PRESENT POSITION. (By Wire.—iParlia-mentary Reporter). Wellington, Last Night. Wo official announcement lias yet been made regarding butter. The representatives of the producers have made an offer to Mn. Maneey on the basis of the terms discussed at yesterd.iy's conference, and have left a commitlee in Wellington to watch their interests. Mr. Massey will now put the proposal before Cabinet, and it is practically certain the Government will agree to purchase the season's output at Is 4d, and accept the risks of shipment. The producers, in the discussion with the Prime Minister, made a strong point of the increased cost of production, but they realised that, failing Government purchase, their chances of getting butter away at all would be precarious. Ministers feel they will tak-e a certain risk in buying the output at Is 4d, in view of the uncertainty of shipping, and the unwillingness of the liuperioi authorities to provide space for butter until the next season's meat and oheese hag been shipped.
