EFFICIENCY BOARD.
STATEMENT BY.'MB. MASSEY. (By Reporter.) n Wellington, August 21. A plain statement regarding the position of the Efficiency Board was made at last by Mr. Massey to-day, when, in reply to questions in the House, he stated: "The resignations of members of the Board are not in my hands. They are in the hands of the Defence Minister at the present moment, but there is an understanding between Sir James Allen and the Board that he will hold the resignations over until Cabinet has had an opportunity of considering the position as it affects Government and Board. I have had an interview with members of the Bjoard, and did my level best to induce them to reconsider their decision, but without much success. When the Government has considered the position our decision will be communicated to the ißoard, and then. the final decision will rest with the Commissioners."
