Oollis E. Griffiths, J. W. Hay den, and J. Clarke. REPORTS. / The reports, already published, of the engineer, electrical and tramways engineer, tho borough inspector, the Works Committee, aud the Reserves Committee were adopted, with the exception that the clauses in the bitter referring to the abattoirs were referred back to the committee for further consideration ufter a conference with the butchers' representatives. VOGELTOWN REQUIREMENTS. "Tho Vogcltown Progressive Association wrote that they had appointed a deputation to wait on the Council to urge the desirability of acquiring a motor vehicle to supply the needs of the districts not served by the trams. They »lso asked that Victoria Road, from Gilbert Street to the Holdsworthy Road, be' re-named Carrington Road, which would then run from Courtenay Street tight through, and that Old Carrington Road, from Eillis Street to its junction with Brooklands Road, be re-named so that it shall form part of Brooklands Road. They further requested the Council to complete the unfinished length of concrete kerbing on the Carrington Road, re-form and gravel this portion of the footpath, together with- 1 the dangerous portion of the path in the cutting on Victoria l'oad hill, and ( also to ( remove the cobble stones crossing near Mr. W. Perry's property on the Carrington Road. The deputation referred to consisted of Messrs F. E. Wilson, H. Benton. W. J. Berridge, aud Sutton, and were hoard by the Council in support of their representations. , i the Mayor moved that the question of a motor bus be referred to the Tramways Committee, and the kerbing be referred to tho engineer for reportCarried.

Tlie deputation referred to consisted of Messrs F. K. Wilson, H. Benton. W. J. Berridge, and Sutton, and were hoard by tlie Council in support of their representations. , !

Consideration of changing the names of t!ic- streets, as suggested, was deferred for a, week.

THE WAR SJOAN.

The Minister of Finance invited the co-operation of the Mayor and Council in making the new war loan a success. He suggested not only public meetings, but the formation of active committees to work in specified districts, and asked that every effort should be exerted to make the even a bigger success than the last.

The Mayor said a public meeting had been arranged for Thursday night, and several gentlemen haET been asked to speak. I'lie meeting would be held at t!u: Soldiers' Club, 'and he hoped that all the councillors would attend, to mako it as representative as possible. 'Arrangements were also under consideration for appeals to be d'isplaved at the picture theatres. These arrangements could b ? Uft in the hands of the executive committee. DAY OF PRAYER. The Mayor of TTokitika forwarded a ocpy of a resolution passed at a public meeting in that town in connection with the third anniversary of the war, urging that a day of national prayer should be held throughout -tlie Dominion, beginning with Parliament itself. Cr. Col lis thought the people of the Dominion did not fully realise the position of affairs. He was of opinion that the Government should lie asked to set apart a special day of prayer for tlie termination of the war and'ask all denominations to observe it in their churches;. That would make it a national affair, and impress 011 the public mind tlie true position. They had already passed throughout the Dominion a resolution reaffirming the Empire's determinat ion to continue the war to" a 'Victorious conclusion. That was from il _ secular point of view; what the Hoki•tika resolution meant was from a religious point of view. Cr. Clarke said they would only be beating the air to pass such a resolution as the one suggested. He thought a little jnorc fighting and hard )vork down here pn earth would be likely to prove more practically efficacious than praver. J lie Mayor said the Council's province was more lo look after the streets and attend to municipal matters, generally than to take part in religious affairs. .Perhaps the matter might be referred to tlie Ministers' Association. On the motion of Or. Clarke, seconded toy Cr. Griffiths, it was decided to merely receive the letter. GENERAL. Dr. Watt. District •Health Officer, intimated that he would be pleased to meet .the Sanitary Committee of the Council to discuss measures for the prevention of infectious disease in New Plymouth, and would advise later as to when he could visit the town.—'Received, the •Mayor stating that he would call the Sanitary Committee together to meet Dr. Watt. Oil the motion of Cr. Griffiths it was decided to erect signs directing the public where lo park cars. Cr. Col lis said that some parts of the tramway track -were positively dangerous to bicycles and motor cycles, and the matter was referred to the engineer.
