The field numbered 2!), and the dividend was—well, you all know that At one stage of the Hunt Club Cun TCanza was nearly a hundred yards in front of the field, but Mr. E. Short's folding turned -out a "pearler." .. HymetiK gelding Dionysius won the Trial Hurdles by sheer grit His 'party flew too high on Saturday, and tame =to ground very huddenly. Miss Sation was sore on the first dav at Kicctrton, .but on Saturday she was heavily backed away from the course and the soreness shifted into the hearts oi the Bar Codings. Leonta looked as fit as anvthin? as 'the crowd paraded the bird iirior to the G.N. Hurdlqs, and his party are certain that had he stood up he would uave been second—at least.
Flying Camp jumped the first few fences in the National cleanly and smartly, but even barring accidents the distance might Utive found him out. The big smash in the G.X. Hurdles was early predicted by those who say the field unduly crowded. Only one horse had to touch a fence, and the rest would go down like a string of dominoes, was an opinion expressed by a keen judge just after, the start. As it turned out Art took off too far, aud the prediction turned into history.
Sleight-of-Hand s exhibition of fencing lit the National was superb. and hU backers really never had a moment's anxiety. He will make an ideal 'chaser later on.
Master Strowan was ridden a confident race in the G.!\ T . Steeples. He joined St. Elmn at the last fence, and ran in a comforlaole winner. The good price lie paid was partly to the crowd going off liirn when it was seen tlmt McSweeney (who had a bad fall off Art) tvas still determined to take the momir.
King Star got out well, and always held a good position in the Winter Clip. Jicll gave him the benefit of a heap of vigorous horsemanship in tlie straight, nnd catching the dying Parisian Diamond on the post lie turned punters' hearts to sadness—and booki'es' hearts to gladness. It's an ill wind. ete. The ancient Castashore gelding Wellwood is just a good honest jumper, with no pretensions to pace. It was just his careful leaping that got him into the eecond dividend each day.
Eewipoto's brace of failures sriread plooni ill Taranaki, the black liors'i being well backed each day. There is some talk of a trip to Australia, but the present unsettled conditions over there mav cause Mr. W. Raleigh to bide a wee.

Awav from the course nothing but Miss de Vnl was inquired for in the August Handicap, but Disdainful was Hit* actual favorite, and won very comfort, tiblv.
Sandy Paul's splendid wm in the Reaulort Steeples was overdue, and those who were consistent enough to ''follow up" on the chestnut were rewarded with a limit dividend.
The Svdenham Hurdles saw the place money divided between a trio of outsiders. For a change, Bon lieve was ranght in a galloping humor, and the rest does not require recounting.
Gisborne horses, Rewanga and llvthread, won the concluding events aL the meeting. Gisborne generally has something pretty at National limes, and ivhen the "Kelly Gang" bet they knock things a twister.
