FINANCIAL PROPOSALS. By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter. ■Wellington, Last Night. The financial proposals of the Government are to tie brought down this week. They will take precedence of licensing legislation, and also of the Expeditionary Force Bill, which will deal with the Second Division men. EARLY CLOSING OV HOTELS. Just what the proposals of the Goveminent will be with regard to the early closing of hotels is still a matter fot speculation. In the lobbies, the advo (ates of six o'clock closing are claimlug that they 'have a majority in tha Bouse, but they do not profess to know t.-liat proposal is coming from the Gov* eminent. A compromise of some kind eeems likely, but one hesitates to predict A LEISURELY HOUSE. ' Parliament is no\fni the eighth week t>f the session, and there is every indication that the proceedings will he prolonged far into October, possibly into November. The House is doing its work in a very leisurely fashion. None of the tontentious legislation of the session has yet teen considered, and much of It does not seem to have taken its final form in the Cabinet room. Mr. Massey has not been forcing the pace. He has allowed the House to rise reasonably early on most evenings, though he displajfel sode annoyance, mingled with amusement, the other evening when tha adjournment was moved and carried by a member who, according to the arrangement made by tha whips, should have "spoken his piece" to the empty benches that are the order after 11 p.m. .
