Corpora] A. L. Hujiinhries was entertained at a smoke last night by the members of the Defence Rifle Club, President Hill being in the s chair, and amongst those present were Col. Archdeacon Evans, Major Cox, Lieuts. A. E Johnstone and White. The ,guest of the evening, who was the first president of the club, was presented with a travelling rug, and wished success and a safe.return. A number of songs intersoersed the toast list. > *
The death occurred at Vogeltown yesterday morning of Mrs. Surman;%ife of Mr. W. Surman. The late Mrs. Surman had not been well for some time past, so that the end was not altogether unexpected. For many years' the family resided at Lepperton, and two or three years ago retired and cameVto live at Vogeltown.
