DISTRICT NEWS.

1 LEPPERTON. (From Our Own Correspondent). Our little township was all agog with excitement last Friday, when the social event of the year, the annual ball, was held. The glorious weather prevailing together with the able management of thoEe interested, made the occasion a conspicuous success. The main hall had been tastefully decorated by a zealous band of workers, and was soon the scene of a crowd of merry folks, bent on an enjoyable evening. The many fancy dresses of the ladies made the scene a particularly bright one. Among those in fancy dress were

•Misses Branley. George, Giddy (3), AckUnd, Harvey (2), Hoskin (-2), Pcnwarden. The only gentleman I noticed in fancy attire was Mr. A. Hellier as Mephistopheles, who exercised his wily fascinations with the usual success of this character. First-class music was supplied by Miss Curd (piano), and Messrs Stockman (clarionet) and Lamb (cornet), extras being generously played by others. The duties of M.C.'s were efficiently carried out by Messrs. D. SarJten and P. and N. Sanipsbn. Towards midnight the supper room •was visited. Its long tables laden with eatables of such variety 1 a s to suit all

palates, were a tempting sight to all, r and made more so by beautiful spring , flowers which gTaced them. The evenings proceeds are for patriotic purposes, i but a statement of these is not yet toi band.

L Our next patriotic event is to takathe 3 shape of a concert by the Waitara Anzac g Day performers who have already creatp cd a favorable impression in Lepperton. , This .wifl probably be held towards the end of the present month, the proceeds going to the Y.HC.A. L Under the direction of Mr. Boon the new dairy factory is rapidly assuming ■shape.
