MDHTRST'S DAY. < Stratford, Aug. 11. The Midhlrat folk deserve great credit for the systematic manner in which they conducted their efforts to secure cash for patriotic purposes in Stratford today. Headed by Mrs. Hogg, sevoral in neat Red Cross nurse uniforms actively canvassed the town for subscriptions to the funds, giving in return art union tickets, button-holes, etc. The mart was well filled with a varied assortment of goods, and the tea-rooms also received splendid support. In the afternoon., from the platform of a motor-lorry, a small but solid brass band gave several patriotic airs that were pleasing and appropriate. TOKO'S FAREWELL. "" j Mr. M. Gernhoefer informs mo that great preparations are being made in connection with the farewell social to Riflemen A. Cato and R. Burgham on Thursday evening. It is understood that amongst other performers Messrs Ranford Bros, will assist, whilst one or two others new to Toko audiences will contribute to the programme. Motor cars are being placed at the disposal of the performers to allow them to return at their own leisure. Particulars are advertised in another column. GENERAL. The Stratford Hospital Board meets on Tuesday afternoon, and the same evening the school committee hold their monthly meeting.
