SEVERE GALE LV THE NORTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 10. The severest gale experienced for many Tears was recorded from 5 a.m. till midnight yesterday. Great damage Mas done to launches and ashore. One farmer estimates his loss at £IOOO. The 'Russell Public Hall was demolished. At Whangamuma Mr. Cook had a trying time saving his whaling ship. Considerable damage was done to the factories, wharves and jetties, and a considerable quantity of whale oil wa 3 lost.
