GRAND JURY RECOMMENDS SEVERE FLOGGING. j Christchureh, August 6. At the Supreme Court to-day the Grand .Tury made the following presentment to Mr. Justice Denniston: "The Grand Jury again draws attention to the shocking number of indecent assault eases on young children, and urges those in authority to so amend the law that persons convicted of such, pffences. should be severely flogged." His Honor asked the foreman if the 'jury intended the presentment to mean that in every case of indecent assault on young children the sentence must include severe (logging. The foreman: "Certainly." His Honor said he would forward the presentment to the proper quarter, but lie felt bound to add that, as the result of long experience, he was satisfied that owing to the extreme variance in, culpability in cases of this class, 3uch a rule 'would do m,ove, to decrease the probai bility of conviction thari otherwise.
