CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE ON EAST COAST.

By Telegraph—Press Association Masterton, Last Night. The earthquake in the Masterton district was very severe. In the east coast districts much damage was done in regard to chimneys and furniture. The Taueru Hotel was almost wrecked, aud damage amounting to £2OO was caused. 'Chimneys have fallen everywhere. There were several narrow escapes, but no injury is reported. In several places the .earth opened in small degrees. Thu quakes lasted until an early hour on Monday morning, eight or nine 'being recorded after the main shock. CastAepoint lighthouse was affected, the lantern being put out of gear imtil daylight.
