THE MART.
GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL AND CHETWODE. Tho girls and teachers of the Now Plymouth High and Chctwode schools had charge of the mart on Saturday, and excellent business resulted from their efforts. They were busy throughout the entire day,- and with the assistance of many willing friends, succeeded in beating tho total gathered in by the Boys' High School on the previous Saturday a few shillings over £2OO, while the girls succeeded in obtaining £203, thus socuring pride of place, and establishing a record of which they may justly be proud. Considerable interest was taken in the various guessing competitions, the principal contests being as follows: Peas in bottle (correct number 705). —Mr. J, Terry guessed exact number. Cake (correct Weight s%lbs)—Miss Mcl Cellar guessed exact weight. Length of piece of string (correct length, 50 yards oft s%ins),—Mr. C. T. Pike, 50yds Oft 3ins. Cake (Sy 4 1b).-Mr. B. Hornet, Blb 2oz). i Turkey (7y 4 1b).-Mr. J. Wilson, exact weight. Dolls' Mr, Renaud; Nona, Miss N- Dell. Doll's House.—Rose Cottage, Miss J. Cassie. live hundred buttonholes and mottoes were disposed of, and the winning motto is: "The time is past when any jn&n or nation Will meekly bear unrighteous domination." The motto can be exchanged for the prize at the office of Messrs Baily and Duff, Devon Street. Among the winners of minor guessing competitions were Mesdames Beal and Street, Messrs Morton, Watkins, Ewing and Brown. The young ladies who were in charge desire to thank the many friends who so ably assisted during the day's highly successful operations.
