o ■ THE GAS WORKERS' TROUBLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. August 3. A largely attended stop-work meeting of the Waterside Workers' Union decided to write to the Prime Minister expressing the opinion that the gas dispute should be taken out of the hands of both parties, as unless such steps ■were taken there was grave danger of an industrial upheaval that will afi'ect 'all New Zoa>.tnd. Tho meeting suggested that each side should appoint threo representatives, neither stokers nor shareholders, the committee to appoint an independent chairman, the decision of the 'committee to be binding on both .parties. Meanwhile the matter was referred to a meeting of coal workers. ' The Kittawa is not being worked. .: THE SHEARERS' DISPUTE '' "" ' Wellington, August 2. No agreement was reached in the Wellington shearers' dispute before the Conciliation Council. The owners offered £1 per hundred, but the U,nion refused to accept less than 27s fid.
