DISTRICT NEWS.
CARDIFF. (From Our Own Correspondent). Cardiff, in general with the rest of Tarauaki, is experiencing exceptionally stori-iV weother. The farmers of the district arc beginning to doubt whether their early calvers 'will survive this inclement weather or not. In some instances milking will begin much earlier than usual. On Wednesday. August 1, the Cardiff cheese factory will re-open for the coming season. Preparations for its advent are almost completed. Last year, owing to the shortage of labor, the company had to supplement their usual firewood with coal and this year they will be almost dependent upon coal as fuel for the same reason Several families have of late shifted from Cardiff, and others have taken their places. Among the former are Messrs Prebble, F. Crossley and Jones, and their families who have become well known in the district.
' Last week the report of the inspector upon the Cardiff School work was received, and under the circumstances it v.asatisfaetory to note that the school had made considerable progress in its efliciony during the past year.
