The Mayor said he was of opinion that £3OOO of tho £ GOOO loan raised for the museum and munioipal offiqjs might bo diverted for expenditure on the streets. The museum building was now going on, and when it was Cuinpleted, and the furnishing of the present municipal offices was done, as resolved upon by the council, about £3OOO, probably a little more, would be available. As it had been decided to continue using the present offices he thought the money might be diverted to the streets, and at next Monday's meeting he would move that steps be taken to secure the necessary legislative authority to do so. It was suggested by councillors that the matter might be dealt with at once, instead of waiting for a week, and, after a short discussion, Cr. Griffiths moved that st°ps be taken in the direction indicated by the Mayor. Cr. Colls seconded the motion, which was carried.
LEMON STREET FOOTPATHS. The Central School Committee drew attention to the state of thß footpath between the school steps aod Gover street, the porton of it immediately n front of the steps being in a particularly bad state in wet weather, The borough engineer reported that the cost of kerbing and channelling Lemon street on both sides, from Gover street to Liardet street, would ba about £175. He recommended that the Education Board be notified to put their drains in the locality in proper repair, as at present they discharged on to the footpath and crused considerable damage. On the motion of Cr. Browne it was decided to kerb and channel both sides of Lemon street as proposed, and to notify the Education Board in accord, ance with the recommendation of the engineer. BY-LAW REVISION.
