EGMONT RACING CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Egmont Racing Chib on Thursday there was a good attendance, and Mr. Jos. Quin, chairman of tho committee, presided. , r , Tlle . alinual re P»rt said, inter alia: The ualance-sheet shows a profit oi £1438 13s 7d for the year. The in' creased revenue from nominations, acceptances and gates wae most satisfactory, particularly in the absence oi suitable railway arrangements for tli# winter meeting. Ihe following are the particulars of the profit and loss account as disclosed by the balance-sheet: Expenditure: Advertising and printing, £324 9b fid; attendance at meet'.nfw 5?! lla general expenses, 1.514 Gs ld : maintenance, £317 2s od•stakes, £5240; salaries, £453 19s- Government tax, £3741 9s 2d; deprecid'■wi, £«92 2s; bad and doubtful debts, £IOO. and sundry debts, estimated to be recoverable, £lO7 Ifta 1(M; balance at Bank of :\ow Zealand, £2720 17s lOd The chairman said that since the last annual meeting the club had lost by .death the services of its secretary (Mr. • J. Turton) and its handioapper (Mr. G." : Morse), -who were more than experts in * their particular spheres of labor. Their 1 places in the community would ba verv ' hard to fill. Mr. V. Stratton succeeded ' tho late Mr. Turton, but shortly after ' "is appointment tad been overtaken by ' a serious illness. The club was fortun- 1 ate in securing the services of Mr. G. - Holder as acting-secretary at a mo- 1 ment's notice. Mr. Holder had carfiod * out his duties at the winter meetine

with credit to 'himself and with BfttUfaction to the club and to its patrons. The club's worthy president (Mr. R. H. Nolan) was an absentee, and although the members would be sorry that Mr. Nolan w&a not *with them that evening they would not regret his absence altogether 'because they knew ho was doing very valuable work in connection with their soldiers. Mr. Nolan dessrved great credit for the time and energy he was putting in on behalf of the soidiers. (Hear, hear). The nominations, acceptances and forfeits had increased )>y £335, the gates t,y an( j t jj c sales of correct cards by £22. The totalisator tax this year amounted to £374 9s 2d. The farming account showed a profit of £299 Sis 44. Th# net profits of the club for the year wer# £I4&S 13s 7d; that <was after allowing a considerable amount for deprecation and making Some provision for bad debts. Tho club had no liabilities. The net assets of the club were £12,529 lftj 8d (less depreciation £88»1, which included a substantial credit balance with the club's bankers. Tho value of the improvements were set out-in tha bal-ance-sheet as £3930 odd, a very atodftit valuation. Taken all is. all th#re wore very few country racing clubs that were in a better position than th# %mont Racing Club. It was probable that had It not been for the curtailment of racing the club would have considered th# advisableness of increasing the stakes, particularly for the winter meeting. Owing to the reduction of racing days the club

loses the whole of its winter meeting. In this connection he might mention that the committee voluntarily surrendered its winter meeting, so as not to impose upon the district delegate* to the conference the unpleasant task of saying which of the four TaTanaki raoing clubs should lose the fourth day.

| The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. R. H. Nglan (re-elected) ; vice-president, Mr. J.Gray; committee, Messrs. J. H. (Baker, A. Good, J. Grav, R. Hicks, H. Spratt, J. S, Tonks, and H. Spratt; auditor. Mr. W. A. Quln. Several recommendations were made to the incoming committee, including a proposal that a contribution of £l<M) be given to the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club; that all members of the club be allowed ill the bird cage; that the committee recommend the local authorities to tar the Waihi road; that the "takeoffs" on the training track be top-dress-ed; that the club appoint an honorary veterinary surgeon.
