Last week's Red Cross Mart takings amounted to £2S Cs fid, which was increased by donations, etc., to £GO, 'a gratifying total. The weather has been anything but favorable for golfing, but local players nre turning out in full force. The playoff in the monthly medal competition between O'Carroll. Geddis and Sutherland resulted in a. win for Geddis. To-day a mixed foursome was played in Very showery weather and resulted in a win for E. Surrey and Miss Laing with a net score of 90, while Gudgen and Mrs. O'Carroll were runners up with a score of 91. The children's fancy dress ball to be held on Friday evening promises to be a great success, both teachers and parents are sparing no time in preparing the juveniles for this popular function. Mr. Howlett has resigned his position as electrical engineer and I understand leaves at an early date for Auckland. s
