GOVERNMENT PURCHASE OF CHEESE.
THE PROPOSAL FAVOBED.
A large and representative meetfauj of directors of Taranaki and Wangttui cheese factories was held at Hawera, on Saturday last, to consider the matter of selling to the Imperial Government the Dominion's output of cheese for the coming season. The meeting'was sonvencd by the National Dairy Association at the request of the 'Prime Minuter, and was presided over by Mr. Arthur Morton, president of the association. A resolution was passed favoring a sale to the Government, and ten delegates were appointed to proceed to Welling. ton to act in conjunction with other delegates from other dairying districts st the conference convened by the Prime Minister for Thursday next. No priee was fixed upon, but an indication was given to the delegates of the feeling of the meeting in regard to an acceptable , figure. Instructions were, also given ihat an effort be made to obtain a final settlement with respect to last year's purchase, there being still some polnis which have not yet been settled. The question of the provisioji of eool storage ■was also discussed, and the delegates were requested to endeavor to attend a conference convened by the Farmers' Union, and to be held in Wellington on Wednesday next, at which this question will be further considered. The following were the .delegates" appointed:— Messrs W. D. Powdrell, H. D. Forsyth, S. Mackay, J. Marx, J. S. Connett. J. B. Murdoch, M. Fleming, D. J. Williams, T. Winks and W. Binnie. ■ '
