Mr. S. Meredith, of Ohura, is visiting New Plymouth. At Saturday's meeting of the Moa Road Board Mr. A. Corkill was re-elect-ed chairman unopposed. A London cable states that Mr. Kennedy Jones, Director of Food Economy, has resigned. H. Hughson, of Rahotu, having completed his term of training on the Government training ship Amokura, has been transferred to the Corinna.
jOn Saturday Mr, W. X. Ewing, of Xew Plymouth, received a caWe from his son, Lieut. K. S. Bwing, stating that lie had quite recovered from his recent wound.
Mr. A. H. Halcombe, of Urenui, had the misfortune a day or two ago to run a needle into his foot, necessitating treatment in a private hospital in New Plymouth.
Mr. Olscn, manager of the Mangamaire factory (Rexdale Dairy Co.) has been appointed manager of' the New Zealand Rennet Co. The location' of the factory has not yet been definitely fixed.
Mr. W. R. Leighton, of Westown, has received a cable from his son, Gunner Roy Leighton, who was wounded, stating that lie is progressing satisfactorily. Gunner Leighton, who left New Zealand with the mounteds, was transferred to the big gun section in Egypt, afterwards going to France. In Friday's casualty list 'Private A Griffin, of Tnnha, is posted as missihX'. Private Grifiiu is a son-in-law of Mr. G. A. Adlam, of Oakura, and left a wife and 'large family in' order-to go and do "hit bit" for the Empire. He was recently awarded the Military Medal. ''
'Privates A. Lealancl and W. Hedley, of the 29th Reinforcements, -who are home on final leave, were entertained on Saturday evening by their "sports" friends, A short toast list was honored, and the varied musical programme -was much enjoyed. Mr. E. Whittle behalf of the assembled well-wishers, presented Private Lealand with a pocket wallet'and Private Hedley with, a shaving outfit. On Thursday night, the memhbers of the Avenue Road Card Club assembled at Mr. F. Richards' residence to farewell Private T. Prentice, wlio is leaving with the 20th Reinforcements. Mr. E. Sole, on behalf pf the club, presented Private iPrentice with a ease of pipes and a tobacco pouch, and wished the recipient a speedy and safe return. The party then sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and cheers were given for Private Prentice, who briefly expressed his sincere thanks for the presentation.
