THE CHLOROFORMING CASE By Telegraph.—Press Association. ChristcYiureh, Jnh- 20. The case of alleged chloroforming in the Clarendon Hotel in the small hours of July "i was heard in the Magistrate's Coint to-day. AVillinii: Kinnaird, aged 30, and Robert Irwin Meaohlem, 24, were charged that, with intent to facilitate the commission of a crime, th«y attempted to cause Andrew Rollo Guild to 'be affected ly chloroform. Guild, a farmer of Tcmuka, said his wife- awakened hin\ at a.m.,' and he noticed a heavy strong smell, which he nut down to chloroform, His wife was very much excited, alarmed, and partly dazed, and he felt affected in the lungs. Tie found a large handkerchief roaked with a solution lying between the pillows. Evidence was given by Mrs. Guild and others. Both accused were committed for trial, and bail was refused. EMPLOYING txRXROLLED RESERVISTS. Wellington, July 20. In the Magistrate's Court to-day the Union Company was fined £2O for employing a ■Second Division reservist who had not enrolled. There were extenuating circumstances, hence only the minimum fine was imposed.
